JOSH Lacey produced a brilliant unbeaten century to lead Beechwood Mazda Premier Division leaders Ockbrook & Borrowash to a crushing win away to Ticknall on Saturday.

And it was an emotional day for Lacey, son of former Derbyshire all-rounder Simon, as he had learned ahead of the game that his grandmother, Ann, had died suddenly.

Ticknall chose to bat and might have set a bigger target than 218-9 if captain Tom Wood had not been run out for 99, having hit 14 fours and a six.

Greg Cork added 33 but the rest of the innings rather fell away.

When Ockbrook replied, Ethan Berlusconi was leg before to Waseem Fazal from the first ball he faced with one on the board but, from there, George Brandrick and Lacey could not be parted.

Brandrick contributed 71 not out to their partnership of 218 and Lacey finished on 136 not out from 132 balls, with 18 fours and five sixes.

Ockbrook stretched their lead to 64 points as the curse of second place struck again, Spondon losing away to Sandiacre Town.

Put in, Sandiacre made a modest 118 all out, indebted to captain Connor Marshall for his 93 from 121 balls, although Scott McNeill scored 51:
