Council tax set to shrink for more residents in city

COUNCIL LOOKING TO EXTEND SUPPORT SCHEME FOR THOSE ON LOW INCOMES
ASCHEME designed to ensure people on low incomes pay reduced amounts of council tax could be extended to include more households - and they would all pay even less than now.
Currently, Derby City Council's council tax support (CTS) scheme is limited to properties in Band A and everyone who receives CTS must pay at least 30% of their bill.
The city council is looking into ways to extend this support.
The proposal is to increase the property cap from Band A to include Band B and reduce the required contribution from 30 per cent to 20 per cent, meaning that eligible residents would pay a smaller portion of their council tax bill.
The current cost of the CTS scheme for 2024-25 is more than £14million.
