Blow the cobwebs away with a challenging stroll taking in the Ladybower Dam wall

WHILE the frosty weather and wintry showers might dampen our spirits in the run-up to Christmas, they actually create ideal conditions for walking, compared to the blistering - and often hazardous - heat of summer.

The cool temperatures are particularly inviting when tackling some of the Peak District's highest peaks - such as Win Hill, visible from miles away.

Nestled in the heart of the national park with views over the historic Ladybower Reservoir, this lesserknown hill - in my view - gives popular favourites Mam Tor and Kinder Scout a run for their money.

While you may encounter the odd group of walkers on your ascent up the scenic peak, the crowds at the summit often provide a more peaceful experience than the increasingly busy Mam Tor.

Not only can the hill be incorporated into an easy-to-follow circular walk, but there's also a fantastic pub waiting at the end.

We began our journey by parking near The Yorkshire Bridge Inn north of Bamford, then strolled along the Ladybower Dam wall, following a path that leads you clockwise around the dam's banks.
