Actor Kevin fit the Bill for over 10 years

FAMILIES will remember gathering around their televisions for their weekly instalment of crime fighting at Sun Hill police station as The Bill was prime viewing from 1983 until 2010.

One of the central characters in the show, from 1988 until 1998, was DC Alfred 'Tosh' Lines, played by Derby-born actor Kevin Lloyd.

Kevin had a distinguished career both in the theatre and on screen.

He was born in Derby into a family which had strong connections with the police - his father, grandfather and an uncle were all police officers.

In February 1970, Kevin's father Ellis Aled Lloyd, who was a sergeant with Derbyshire Constabulary, was killed answering an emergency call when his Panda car hit a lamppost on Osmaston Road.

Kevin suffered as a child from a painful disease which affected his right leg but not his lifelong love of sport.

He had a secret desire to play football for Derby County. His other sporting passion was cricket, and he was for many years a member of the Lord's Taverner's.

Kevin's first stage role was playing Joseph in a nativity play at his Alvaston junior school.
