Maitland mense march on cop shop

WESTERN Cape police commissioner Thembisile Patekile has been given 14 days by Maitland residence to provide answers about staffing issues at the SAPS Maitland branch.

Maitland's Ratepayers and Residents Association, ward councillor Cheslyn Steenberg and community members marched to Maitland police station at the weekend to hand over a memorandum demanding SAPS management and stagnant staff at the station be removed as crime increases.

Just last month, they went public with their complaints, highlighting how staff locked the gates of the station at night and there was a lack of available vans and responses to complaints.
