Schools warned of surge in powerful slingshot weapons

AN old menace has returned to cause mayhem at schools - catapult slingshots.

A warning has been issued before the new term about high-powered versions of the Victorian weapons that may have been given to kids as Christmas presents.

Old fashioned slingshots - like the one used by The Beano’s Dennis the Menace - were often homemade using a simple forked branch and bits of rubber.

But sales of the powerful modern versions have been soaring in recent weeks.
