Young gun grabs Cup glory but race marred by tragedy

SCANDINAVIA won the battle of Ballydoyle as he ground out victory from favourite Illinois in the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup.

However, the feature race on a murky day in West Sussex was marred by a fatal injury to popular stayer Trueshan.

The nine-year-old was taking part in a fourth edition when he was abruptly pulled up by jockey Hollie Doyle with six furlongs to go.

The incident overshadowed the tussle between the Aidan O'Brien-trained pair, who had the £283,550 first prize in safe keeping with a furlong to run.
