Record in the Wirtz

LIVERPOOL are about to smash their transfer record - the only thing stopping them is agreeing by how much.

Kop bosses have committed to pay £100m guaranteed in a package worth £114m to land their man most wanted Florian Wirtz.

But Bayer Leverkusen are playing hardball and could push the Reds into paying a British record fee for the German ace.

The deal is now down to the details, which means there should be a signature soon.

What remains to be sorted revolves around the add-ons Leverkusen want, how the deal is structured and the payment plan.

Wirtz wants only to move to Anfield, but Leverkusen are standing firm on what they believe the 22-year-old is worth.

The Reds are, at this stage, unwilling to match the £127m (€150m) that the Bundesliga club want the total package to be.
