Sergio mops up as big guns fail to make splash

SERGIO PEREZ mastered the Marina Bay Circuit to seal the best win of his career on a soggy night when the sport’s biggest names slipped up. 

A deluge in the build-up to the race saw the start of the Singapore Grand Prix delayed by just over an hour.

And the treacherous conditions added yet more demands for the drivers in the most physically gruelling race of the season, which finally came to an end when the two-hour limit was hit.

When it did, it was Red Bull’s Perez who took the chequered flag first, with Charles Leclerc in second. He was later handed a five-second penalty for a safety car infringement but crucially finished 7.5secs ahead of his nearest rival. Leclerc’s Ferrari team-mate Carlos Sainz rounded off the podium places.
