Diouf's rightful place is in the Anfield Hall of Shame

HE was the man with the world at his feet who ended up being branded one of Liverpool's worst-ever players.

This week's Foreign Legion looks back at the career of El Hadji Diouf, a story of a meteoric rise and an almighty fall.

Cast your mind back to the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

Every major tournament needs a good underdog story and for Cameroon and Roger Milla in 1990 read Diouf and Senegal 12 years later.

They stunned defending champions France in the opening game thanks to a goal from Papa Bouba Diop - but it was their 21-year-old forward who stole the show.

Less than 24 hours later it was confirmed that Liverpool's long-standing interest in Diouf had been converted into a £10m transfer from Lens.
