But Owls still make use of home advantage

- by ROSS HEPPENSTALL

ETHAN HORVATH was the hero as Sheffield Wednesday dumped out Leeds after winning a dramatic penalty shootout.

The Owls goalkeeper saved spot-kicks from Joel Piroe and Sean Longstaff, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin sent his penalty sailing over the crossbar.

And with Barry Bannan, Ike Ugbo and Liam Palmer netting for the hosts from 12 yards, it ensured they progressed to the Carabao Cup third round on an emotional evening.

On a night when the scrutiny on Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri was magnified off the field, his players certainly did the club proud on it.

A youthful Owls side deservedly led in the 63rd minute courtesy of a horrendous own goal by Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow before ex-Sheffield United man Jayden Bogle levelled in the 81st minute.
