MIND out mate... 600-tonne place of worship coming through!

Moving dramas

Yesterday we revealed how the historic Kiruna Church in Sweden has been relocated on rollers.

The building, dating back to 1912, was in danger of being swallowed up by Europe's biggest underground mine, so it was hoisted onto a giant trailer and moved three miles down the road.

But it’s not the only structure to have found a new home, as JAMES MOORE reveals...

A bridge too far? In 1968, London Bridge was carefully dismantled and shipped to Lake Havasu City in the US state of Arizona, where the 10,000 tonnes of granite blocks were put back together to span a water course.

The crossing, which dates to 1831, had been snapped up by American oil tycoon Robert McCulloch for £1.6million. Officials later quashed rumours that he thought he’d bought Tower Bridge.
