League return beckons for fallen Wembley rivals

WHILE many eyes will be feasting on Europe’s premier club competition this weekend, the football purists will be watching on at Wembley tomorrow when one of two clubs steeped in history will re-enter the Football League.

Whether it is Southend United, whose 101-year reign in the league came to an end in 2021, or Oldham Athletic, the first former Premier League club to drop into non-league when relegated from League Two the following season, remains to be seen in the National League play-off final.
