BRAZILIAN INSPIRES HOLDERS

- LEE RYDER

NEWCASTLE used a Samba beat to find a winning rhythm again as Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes sent Eddie Howe's holders into the last 16.

The Magpies eased past League One Bradford to begin their defence of the trophy with a comfortable victory.

Newcastle were lining up in the Carabao Cup for the first time since beating Liverpool 2-1 in the final in March. They were also on a ninematch unbeaten streak in the competition.

Howe made seven changes to the side that drew 0-0 at Bournemouth, but wheeled back in two of his big guns for the clash with Brazilian duo Guimaraes and Joelinton, both in from the start.

England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was also handed his full debut at St James' Park.
