Work phone texts shock

Dear James,

Recently, I was promoted and was given the work phone that previously belonged to the person who was in that job before me, who has now left the company.

However, the device wasn't properly wiped and I've found a series of derogatory messages on there about myself and a couple of colleagues, which have been sent between the previous employee and some people we work with.

For example one person was repeatedly called lazy because they were off sick with Covid for several weeks. I've not told my colleagues, but feel like I should say something.

What should I do?
