TYRRELL HATTON outscored Rory Mcllroy on the first day of the Dubai Desert Classic - despite piling on a stone sinking wine and Guinness ‘over Christmas.

The LIV Golf star claimed he was “turning like the Titanic” during an opening round of 70 in defence of his title during a “damp January”.

In his pre-tournament press conference, Masters champion Mcliroy told Ryder Cup teammate Hatton to pay the outstanding fines for playing on the Saudi-backed tour in order to stay eligible for Europe.
