Villains miss an open goal after Reinildo sees red as Wilson makes them wait for first league win

ISIDOR SLAMS SHUT ON EMERY

UNAI EMERY slammed his Aston Villa players after they threw away a lead against 10-man Sunderland. ASTON VILLA finally scored but are still on the hunt for their first Premier League win of the season after being held by 10-man Sunderland.

The Villa boss criticised his team for being lazy off the ball, failing to compete in duels and lacking a clear identity.

They played with a numerical advantage for more than an hour after Reinildo was sent off for kicking out at Matty Cash.

Cash opened the scoring in the 67th minute before Wilson Isidor levelled to keep Villa winless.

“We are not playing like I want,” said Emery (below). “We have to adapt some new players in the structure, and we will need time with them. Others know we want to control the game with the ball.

“We had one player more but we didn't control the game.

“When we are playing here, away, we have to fight the duels and we were not fighting all the duels.

“I watched the goal we conceded and we were lazy.

But all the team - not the centre-back or Cash - we were lazy.”
