Inspect the gadgets!

A ROBOT that does household chores and a selfie-taking microwave are among the latest gadgets on a display a tech event which kicked off in Las Vegas yesterday.

Other cutting edge products grabbing attention as the US show got under way included a fold-up TV screen, sci-fi glasses and an AI-powered mirror that can check a person’s health.

Some of the know-how unveiled is at concept stage, but others unveiled at the annual CES (Consumer Technology Association) event are here and now.

Nabbing the prize for cutest has to be Tombot's realistic pet dog “Jennie”, which moves its head to look at you, wags its tail on demand and barks if it wants a treat.

It is designed, say its makers, for those with health challenges, from dementia and anxiety through to depression and loneliness.
