Sore loser Mullery tossed runners-up medal out window

- by MIKE WALTERS

FINAL FLING

ALAN MULLERY was so upset to lose the 1975 FA Cup final that he threw his runners-up medal out of a hotel window on Park Lane.

Fulham's 2-0 defeat against West Ham was England 1966 World Cup hero Bobby Moore's last appearance at Wembley.

And Mullery, who had persuaded Moore to move across London when West Ham treated a national treasure like putting out the cat, was inconsolable.

"We went back to the Hilton on Park Lane for a reception afterwards," recalled the Fulham captain 50 years on from his biggest disappointment in club football.

"I looked at my medal and told my wife June, 'I'm going to chuck it away - I don't want our kids to find it when they are grown up and think their dad was a loser'.

"So I threw it out of the window from a bedroom several floors up. If it hit anyone down in the street below, it wasn't me!
