ENGLISHMAN WIN NEW YORK

LUKE DONALD will challenge his European team to “do something amazing" this week and join the legends who have won the Ryder Cup in the USA.

The Team Europe skipper is one of a few from the old continent to ever win two away ties - in 2004 and 2012.

And Donald has counted there are just 37 European players - the first win away win did not happen until 1985 - who have triumphed on the other side of the Atlantic.

Home dominance has seen the hosts win eight of the last nine Ryder Cups and the Americans are again the bookies’ favourite this week.

The European team will gather at New York's Bethpage Black today before the opening tee shot on Friday.

Donald, who won back the trophy in Rome, said: “Winning is hard. You look at three of the last four aways for us and they have been quite significant wins for the US. Only 37 European players have won away, which is a small number.
