Rovers nailed on for top spot after beating rivals

HULL KR will be crowned League Leaders’ Shield winners for the first time in the Super League era after beating arch rivals Hull FC.

Rovers have not mathematically won the Shield yet but their superior points difference over nearest challengers Wigan means that it is as close to a guarantee as you can get.

It will be the first time Rovers have finished top of the table since 1985.

“It wasn’t pretty,” said coach Willie Peters. “Derbies can be tough but we needed to win. We got the first 20 minutes right, we got the mindset right in terms of building pressure.
