Burgess puts Town on brink of Prem

- IAN BAKER

BACK ON TRAC

CAMERON BURGESS scored the ugliest goal you are likely to see - but it was a priceless one for Ipswich.

The ex-Accrington defender's 69thminute winner left Kieran McKenna's men needing just one more point to seal a first top-flight appearance since 2002.

But it had more non-League than Premier League about it.

Leif Davis' free-kick was not cleared, George Edmundson fell over and then Burgess struck far from cleanly in off the post to send 2,500 travelling Tractor Boys fans wild.

Burgess said: "This is a massive step for sure. I just kicked the ball as hard as I could and kept my head down, there was no secrets. I just hope we can do it for the fans."

Ipswich now need only a draw at home to Huddersfield on Saturday to seal a second consecutive promotion regardless of what rivals Leeds do against Southampton.
