JOE ROOT has been warned his plan to finally celebrate that elusive Test century on Aussie soil will end in more misery Down Under this winter.

England’s premier batsman will be a man on a special mission when the Ashes spark into life, as Ben Stokes and Co attempt to regain the old urn.

But former Baggy Green star Brad Hogg reckons Australia’s vastly experienced and formidable pace attack will again leave the Yorkshireman frustrated.

Root, 34, will be hellbent on silencing those Aussie critics who, while praising him as one of the world’s great runscorers, also taunt him over his failure to score a Test ton in their backyard.

Having amassed 39 centuries in his 13,543 Test runs - and homing in on top run-scorer Sachin Tendulkar - he is hungry for more following a successful series against India.
