Slovenian striker and Mount ease pressure on struggling boss Amorim and lift United into top half of table with win

- FROM DAVID MCDONNELL AT OLD TRAFFORD

RUBEN Amorim's United players delivered for him to spare the Man United boss another uneasy inquest and potentially the sack.

The Portuguese admitted before this game it would be impossible for him to carry on if results did not improve - with the fixture billed as make-orbreak for the embattled coach.

But first-half strikes from Mason Mount and £74million summer signing Benjamin Sesko set the hosts on their way to a comfortable win.

Amorim can now head into the international break without fearing a call from United's chief executive, Omar Berrada, thanking him for his time.

Amorim needed this to ease growing pressure on him, amid talk of players losing faith in his methods and club top brass starting to harbour doubts.

The Red Devils remain a work in progress and have yet to win back-to-back league games under Amorim, but this - albeit against a meek Sunderland - has brought him more time.
