NEW SILKMEN BOSS IS TARGETING CUP GLORY

- BY STEPHEN KILLEN

JOHN ROONEY was in the gym when he learned that Macclesfield boss Robbie Savage left the club.

The 34-year-old had just helped the phoenix club move to within two promotions of the Football League, weeks earlier, when the title-winning manager departed before preseason.

Former Wales international Savage quit to join Forest Green Rovers, leaving the post for Rooney to take over ahead of their season at the highest level, National League North, since their reformation.
