CITY OF TROY crumbled as Notable Speech burst into the big time with a runaway Qipco 2,000 Guineas triumph.

Pre-race hype centred around Aidan O'Brien's unbeaten favourite, at 4-6 the shortest-price since legendary 2011 winner Frankel.

Rated just 1lb shy of his juvenile peak, Newmarket racegoers were braced for the emergence of a potential superstar.

And the race delivered, in surprise fashion, when 16-1 chance Notable Speech ripped up its pre-race script with William Buick steering.

Remarkably the three-time champion jockey hadn't previously won the opening Classic, suffering defeat with hotpot Pinatubo in 2020.
