CARLISLE manager Mark Hughes hailed hat-trick hero Regan Linney after his National League side stunned Reading with a remarkable 3-2 extra-time win in the first round.
-
Substitute Linney struck twice in second-half added time to force the additional period after Lewis Wing and Mark O'Mahony put the League One hosts in control, before completing a dramatic comeback with his 14th goal of the season. Hughes said: "Regan has been doing that all season. It's no surprise any more, the kid's got something."
Fellow fifth-tier club Boreham Wood also caused a stir, beating 10-man League Two strugglers Crawley 3-0 thanks to goals from Matt Rush, Zak Brunt and Abdul Abdulmalik.
Crawley boss Scott Lindsey said: "It became a horrendous afternoon. Good luck to them in the next round, but we were miles off today."
National League side Gateshead upset League One high-fliers AFC Wimbledon with a 2-0 away victory following finishes from Kain Adom and Fenton John.
