Veteran Liam still a star turn

- by GARY FITZGERALD

LIAM DAWSON feared his England spinning days were done and dusted prior to his triumphant recall to the firing line.

After three years out in the cold, the veteran Hampshire star has suddenly emerged as a useful cog in the new England white-ball wheel.

His fabulous four-wicket return to action against West Indies at Chester-le-Street showed there is still plenty of bowling life in the left-armer.

And there is every reason to think that he can hang around long enough to spearhead the bid for glory in next year's World Cup on the spin-friendly subcontinent pitches.

Dawson, 35, showed the youngsters how it's done with a man-of-the-match display to help Harry Brook's side take a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

He hopes to prove just as lethal in today's second clash in Bristol, knowing his career is in its twilight.
