It was a revelation when Ferrari announced the Purosangue. There had long been murmurs of a high-riding 'Prancing Horse', but it took until 2022 for the car to finally appear.

A Ferrari SUV? Turns out to be Puro magic

Now you'd have to argue things have gone well. While purists may have been aghast at a raised-up Ferrari, the Purosangue has proved popular. But how does it cope with our roads? We've been finding out.

WHAT'S NEW?

The Purosangue picks up where the old GTC4 Lusso estate left off. In essence, it's a Ferrari with more practicality than the rest of the firm's cars, as well as a handy four-wheel-drive system to tackle surfaces impassable for the brand's supercars.

It has a wealth of high-tech Ferrari materials while its four-seater layout offers lots of room. You can even fold the rear seats to boost boot space.

WHAT'S UNDER THE BONNET?

A 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine delivering 715bhp and 716Nm of torque. It's linked to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for sharp gear changes. It's four-wheel-drive, but will favour the rears in most driving circumstances. You get 0-60mph in just 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 193mph. A claimed 16.3mpg is probably optimistic.
