Double assassination suspect extradited over bar murders

- BY GERARD COUZENS

THE man accused of killing gangland figures Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons jnr at a bar in the Costa del Sol could face up to four years in a Spanish jail before trial after he was banged up.

Michael Riley arrived at Barajas airport in Madrid late on Wednesday after being extradited from the UK.

The 44-year-old appeared in court shortly after his arrival.

A Spanish court official said: “The court in Fuengirola which is investigating the double murder knows he reached Spain around 10pm.

"Standard procedure would be for him to have appeared before a duty court on arrival so his personal situation could be resolved, which would then place him at the disposal of the Fuengirola court.”

Another well-placed source said: “My understanding is Riley appeared before a judge overnight and was remanded to a Madrid prison.

"He arrived as someone who was under arrest but his judicial situation in Spain had to be regularised, which is why he had to appear in court so he could be formally remanded in custody.
