Transforming Edinburgh into a solar-powered city

A local co-op is using solar power to cut energy bills and reduce Edinburgh's carbon footprint

As climate change continues to be one of our most pressing issues, it's easy to feel powerless to help. However, the pioneering work of the Edinburgh Community Solar Cooperative means that action is not only possible, but it's also happening right now.

In partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council, the coop has installed community-owned solar panels on 30 local schools and leisure centres, generating clean electricity and reducing energy bills.

But that's not all, as the panels are also sparking vital discussions about sustainability among children, teachers and families.

"The Edinburgh Community Solar Cooperative gives people such a great and practical way of making a difference," says board member Gail Wilson.
