Goldson reveals nutritional secrets he hopes will drive him and Rangers to glory
CONNOR GOLDSON has given up on Veganuary.
But the Rangers defender reckons ditching sweet treats and fast food is the quickest way to ensure he prolongs an Ibrox career that is rapidly approaching appearance No.300.
Goldson joined Gers in 2018 just 18 months after emergency surgery on a heart defect. That shock episode caused by an enlarged aorta valve fed doubts about the Englishman’s long-term prospects in the game.
But his hunger to get back to action saw Goldson defy the odds as he made his move to Ibrox, where he’s been a virtual ever-present since.
It still takes discipline and sacrifice where his diet, lifestyle and match preparation are concerned but at 31, he remains as reliable a servant as he’s ever been during his stay in Glasgow. And he hopes that “boring” approach will provide some future excitement in the shape of a healthy serving of silverware come the end of the season.
Goldson said: “I’ve always been quite diligent in nutrition, stretching and gym work. Your career is short in general so I want to go for as long as I can and provide a future for myself and my family.
“I’ve tried going vegan in the past but I don’t do it anymore. It’s just boring. I don’t really eat takeaways, only on the odd occasion.
“I don’t snack, I don’t drink anything other than water. It’s the small things, the one per cents, I think that add up.
“I was quite lucky in that when I was younger I had good professionals around me, especially at Brighton.
