10 OF WACKIEST THINGS BOUGHT BY MURRELL

- BY PAUL HUTCHEON

The Murrell Collection

AN MSP has demanded to know if Peter Murrell paid for Nicola Sturgeon’s lavish bookshelves with money nicked from the SNP.

Court documents show corrupt Murrell paid £1946 in 2016 to Neville Johnson Ltd as a first payment for a fitted library.

He also treated himself to a £943 oak library ladder, as well as buying a £450 necklace for his estranged wife, who was not charged as part of Operation Branchform and there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing, and a camper van.

Sturgeon’s handsome library in the Uddingston home she shared with Murrell was visible during interviews she gave while first minister.

She also proudly showed off the bookcase in 2021 when she spoke about her love of reading in a filmed interview at her Lanarkshire home.

“I now share a house with books rather than the other way round,” she said.

Scottish Conservative deputy leader Rachael Hamilton MSP said: “Scots deserve to know whether Sturgeon's swanky home library - complete with its custom-made ladder - was paid for with crooked cash.”

Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie added: “Nicola Sturgeon’s clueless act is beginning to stretch credibility. The Scottish public and the SNP members defrauded by Peter Murrell deserve to know just how much she benefitted from his theft.”
