Mclnnes warns chasing pack that Hearts are only going to get better

- BY DARREN JOHNSTONE

HEARTS might be clear at the top of the Premiership but Derek McInnes is adamant his team still has to reach their peak.

The Jambos have gone into this international break as leaders, unbeaten and two points clear of Celtic, after their weekend Edinburgh derby win over Hibs.

‘McInnes has been delighted with the start his new-look squad has made and although he won't get embroiled in any early title talk he does think his team will continue to get better.

“The season is still in its infancy but we are getting plenty of encouragement from the players with what they are giving us” McInnes insisted.

“T still think we are going to get better as we go along, but it is important that we recognise it is the performances that are the biggest indicator of trying to get results.

“It is not just having 20,000 support or not giving maximum effort because that is a given. We want to play every game like a derby.

“What we do need at times is to show that quality. We found it difficult on Saturday for various reasons, but we will knuckle down and get on with the job’
