Plea to teach kids as offences double in decade

CAMPAIGNERS have called for schoolchildren and learner drivers to be taught the dangers of drink-driving.

The plea follows shock new figures which show drink driving in Scotland is at record levels.

There were 8638 DUI (driving under the influence) offences in 2024/25, according to the latest Scottish Government figures - an increase of seven per cent on the previous year and up 58 per cent over the past decade.

John Scruby of the Campaign Against Drink Driving says many of the current offenders are aged 17 to 24, both male and female.
