Max ends sight for sore eyes winless streak but this Martin side is a long way off title material
-
JUST when it looked like Rangers were about to make a right spectacle of Russell Martin yet again, Max Aarons provided a sight for his manager's sore eyes.
It's been a long time coming but a first league win of the season may just be enough to keep the besieged gaffer in a job for a few more days.
But you don't need 20/20 vision to recognise this is an Ibrox side a long, long way off being title material.
Martin's decision to don a pair of trendy designer Gregory Pecks for Friday's Sky Sports interview handed his critics fresh ammo to aim at him, having exhausted gags about his carefully-coiffed mop.
They were sharpening their knives again when Mo Sylla's second-half header cancelled out a stunning opener from James Tavernier.
Aarons' 94th-minute winner thumbed one in the eye of the boo boys but huge improvements are going to be needed if Rangers are to keep tabs on Celtic, never mind Premiership leaders Hearts.
For a spell, it did look like the Ibrox men had finally clicked as Tavernier's bicycle-kick finish from Oliver Antman's hooked cross 23 minutes in put them ahead.
But when the skipper saw a penalty saved by Jerome Prior after Stevie May had pulled Nico Raskin's jersey in the box, Martin's nerves must have started to jangle.
He had every right to worry as Livi survived a number of scares - including a disallowed Derek Cornelius goal - to hit back through Sylla.
