IBROX sporting director Kevin Thelwell has defended under-fire Rangers boss Russell Martin and insisted there's a future for midfielder Nico Raskin.

But Gers fans seem less convinced they have the right man in charge to topple Celtic.

Russell Black, Banchory, said: “This is nothing more than a smokescreen from Thelwell, masking his and Martin's utter incompetence in managing and recruitment.

“The manager doesn't know when he has good players sitting on the bench or when they should be playing. As for recruitment they could have spent far less than they have, clear and obvious no-brainer - Lawrence Shankland on a free.

“Vaclav Cerny had already proved his worth and they let Cyriel Dessers go when he had absolutely the right attitude, scored goals and created problems for the opposition.”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “There's something severely wrong at Rangers and it must be Martin. The Hamza Igamane scenario, Raskin being dropped, letting two left-backs go and and then the biggest blow, Dessers leaving, as his desire is to win a league title and not just be top goalscorer.
