Alexander helping turn Ward into lean, mean, non-conceding machine
MOTHERWELL goalie Calum Ward reckons ex-Rangers and Hearts hero Neil Alexander has played a huge role in making him one of the meanest keepers in the Premiership.
Alexander, 47, has been in charge of the goalies at Fir Park since September 2022 and Ward says he has been a huge influence on him, and is a big help when he occasionally makes a mistake.
Ward was lobbed by Clyde's James Hilton during a 2-2 draw in the Premier Sports Cup group stage, when Motherwell won 5-4 on penalties, and parried the ball to Benjamin Nygren, allowing the Celtic striker to equalise as the Scottish champions went on to win 3-2 at Parkhead on October 5.
The 25-year-old has conceded just eight league goals since then, with the Steelmen sitting fourth in the Premiership table.
