COUPLE KEEN ON A FRESH CHALLENGE
SCOTLAND'S oldest bakery is up for sale after 200 years in the same family.
Alexander Taylor Bakery in Strathaven was opened in 1820. Married couple Barry and Claire Taylor became the sixth generation to run the company when they took it over 28 years ago.
Barry and Claire met at art school but returned to their roots to carry on the family's legacy.
Now, with their children all grown up, the couple have made the decision to sell the firm.
Claire said: "The bakery is my husband's family business and his parents ran it before us.
"We've been the custodians of it for a long time.
"The bakery has had a long and thriving history and I feel like it is time for the next chapter for the business."
Barry added: "In the Victorian era, my great-grandfather began to develop it more because there used to be a courtyard at the back.
