The last time Liam bargained on Gers being weary from travels his team took a hammering

- BY MICHAEL BALLIE

LIAM GORDON knows from painful experience not to underestimate Rangers after a European away day.

The Motherwell stopper was at St Johnstone when they headed to Ibrox in 2018 hoping to capitalise on Gers being tired following a 2-2 Europa League draw at Villarreal.

Instead, they were on the receiving end of a 5-1 thrashing.

Gordon is once again preparing to take on Rangers after they secured a draw on their travels in continental competition to progress past Panathinaikos in a tough Champions League qualifier.

He admits Motherwell cannot have the mindset Rangers will be knackered after their European exploits when they come calling at Fir Park for their Premiership opener.

And knows the Steelmen will need to be on song if they are to secure another win over Rangers, like in March.

Gordon said: "It’s only a factor if you make it a factor. I played Rangers before when they'd went to Villarreal and drew 2-2, it was roasting.
