AS anniversaries go, it wasn't the perfect present - but the verbal hug he got from one of his players was cause for celebration for Ruben Amorim.
-
A year ago on Saturday, the Portuguese was announced as the new Manchester United boss, succeeding Erik ten Hag at a club who thought they had reached the bottom.
Back then, beaming in front of the packed press conference at Carrington, Amorim set out a positive message as he looked to bring the current squad on the journey with him.
“Tam a bit of a dreamer and I believe in myself” he said that day. “I also believe in the club as I think we've the same idea, the same mindset, so that can help.
“But I truly believe in the players also. I know that you guys don't believe a lot in these players but [believe a lot and think we have room to improve”
Fast-forward to November 2025 and, after much criticism, Amorim found the backing of his matchday saviour, Amad.
