RORY McILROY reckons he's right in place to hunt down his prey and land a second Irish Open title.

The home hero produced a flying finish at The K Club to move ominously into joint third heading into the County Kildare weekend.

World No.2 McIlroy was lagging a long way off the pace turning for home on day two. But four birdies in his final six holes - he almost holed out for an albatross on the last - saw him sign for a six-under 66 for seven under.

The career Grand Slam superstar is five behind leader Joakim Lagergren but in an ideal spot to apply some weekend heat to the Swede and his nearest challenger Adrien Saddier.

McIlroy, who won here in 2016, said: “Overall I'm really pleased with the day's work and it keeps me within touching distance going into the weekend.
