Jambos boss picks apart Wilfried's masterplan
HE'S only just in the door and has barely had the time to make a first impression.
But already it does seem as if getting to know Wilfried Nancy is going to feel like a bit of an adventure.
Granted, it was a wholly unsatisfactory experience yesterday for Celtic's supporters who rolled into their favourite place in Glasgow's east end expecting the new man in the managerial hotseat to pick up where the old one had left off.
But, if they suspected Nancy would stick in the main to the winning formula which Martin O'Neill had discovered during his storybook time in interim charge, then they certainly underestimated the strength of the Frenchman's inner belief... as they witnessed a 2-1 defeat to Premiership leaders Hearts.
Having only just arrived at Lennoxtown on Thursday morning, Nancy wasted no time in ripping up O'Neill's tactical template and laying down the foundations on which he plans to build his own vision for this Hoops side.
Three at the back, wingers deployed as fullbacks, a box of four in midfield and overloads down either flank on almost every attack.
That was pretty much the plan. It probably looked a whole lot more slick and clever inside his own head than it did out there on the pitch, though, and he ought to have plenty of time ahead to help his new players put his vision into practice.
But Nancy took the gamble regardless and had his pockets picked as a result.
What may well have taken him completely by surprise was the tactical acumen and the all-seeing eye of the man under the hood standing in the away dugout.
Jambos boss Derek McInnes admitted before a ball had been kicked to receiving a tip-off as to Nancy's first couple of days on the training pitch.
McInnes is an established networker with spies in camps all across the country.
