F I ASKED you to name your favourite canal, what would your answer be? Would you say: "Why, the Leeds and Liverpool, of course.

Would you say: "The Worcester and Birmingham, naturally."

Or would you, as I'm inclined to suspect, say: "Why on earth are you asking me to name my favourite canal, Mike? You weirdo." All of those would be understandable responses. Especially that last one.
