Lines set by council split trouble hotspot streets down the middle

FIREWORKS ban zones in Edinburgh fail to cover areas that saw the worst bonfire night trouble in recent years, it has been revealed.

The firework control zone (FCZ) boundaries cut some streets in half, with just one side covered by restrictions.

The dividing line in Niddrie's Hay Avenue runs down the centre of the road where explosives were thrown at riot police during a standoff two years ago.

The clashes led to Edinburgh last year becoming the first Scots council to introduce a fireworks ban in parts of the city last year.

Niddrie, Balerno, Calton Hill and Seafield all had restrictions in place in 2024. This year zones have also been set up in Corstorphine, Moredun, Gracemount, Longstone and Sighthill.
