Relatives of Celtic fan in 'disbelief' after police close case into his disappearance
THE family of a Celtic fan missing in Lanzarote have been told by Spanish police that the case into his disappearance is closed.
Gary Shearer, from Renfrew, vanished hours after he arrived in the country alone to celebrate St Patrick's Day on March 16, 2023. The 53-year-old's loved ones still have no idea what happened to him.
His sister Debbie, 49, told the Record her family are in "disbelief" after the police met her parents to confirm they had "exhausted all leads".
She added: "We are angry and feel let down by the police. We just don't know how they can do this."
Footage released by Spanish cops last year showed Gary with an unknown man, walking outside a Spar shop on the island. Yet officers have not been able to identify the stranger.
