A FORMER Formula One steward who had planned to run for president of the FIA has called for change to the election process.

It comes after it emerged that, because of a technicality in the process, only incumbent Mohammed ben Sulayem will be eligible to appear on the ballot in December's election.

Candidates must submit a list of vice-presidents for sport, representing different regions around the world, as part of their bid. But there is only one approved candidate eligible to represent South America, Fabiana Ecclestone, who is part of Ben Sulayem’s bid for reelection.
