Russian cash takes Cypriots up notch
STEVEN PRESSLEY has warned Aberdeen will have their work out cut away to Conference League heavyweights AEK Larnaca.
The Dundee boss previously had a coaching stint of his own in Cyprus with Pafos.
Cypriot football is now backed by big Russian money and Pressley knows, financially, only Celtic and Rangers have the muscle to compete at those sorts of levels.
That is shown as AEK Larnaca have beaten AZ Alkmaar and Crystal Palace and sit second in the Conference, just behind leaders Fiorentina on goal difference.
Pressley said: “The top teams over there are really strong. It is a good league.
“You've seen that with the Cypriot clubs performing so well in Europe.
“My old club, Pafos, are in the Champions League. Their clubs are making a real impact.
