Star Peter Capaldi on flailing sci-fi show

- BY MARK JEFFERIES

FORMER Doctor Who Peter Capaldi believes the show is struggling because the BBC has forgotten it is a programme for kids.

The actor, 67, says the Beeb is too fixated on everything around the Doctor Who brand rather than making a sci-fi series that appeals to audiences as in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Peter, who played the 12th Time Lord from 2013 to 2017, with Jenna Coleman as his companion Clara until 2015, said: "I think the show is a little bit of a victim of its success.

"The show became very, very big. And it was never like that when I loved it. So it became a different thing."

Peter said of the much-loved early stars: "In the old days, you know, if you were Jon Pertwee or Tom Baker or something like that, you probably spent most of your year making it and then a bit of your year promoting it.
