CONFUSED TRUMP'S CLIMBDOWN

Donald Trump speaks to press in Davos yesterday

DONALD Trump suddenly backed down on imposing tariffs on Nato allies over Greenland last night after a meeting with the man who once referred to him as “Daddy”.

The US President, 79, earlier delivered an unhinged address to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he repeatedly called the Arctic country Iceland.

He appeared to rule out the use of military force to annex the Danish territory - but said in an apparent veiled threat: “You can say yes, and we will be very appreciative. Or you can say no and we will remember.”

After the speech, Trump met Nato secretary general Mark Rutte and then dropped his threat of tariffs on European nations.

It came after a toe-curling moment last year when Rutte said: “Daddy has to sometimes use strong language” after Trump used an expletive while discussing Israel and Iran.

Trump announced the climbdown with a post on Truth Social which read: “[We] have formed the framework of a future deal... a great one for the United States of America and all Nato Nations.”
